Somedays you just want to feel nice. And as luck would have it your friends also want to celebrate nothing much but would love to be with you. For those unplanned evenings, the choice of the place becomes pivotal.
Being a regular at the Nehru Place Irish House, we turned up bright and early at about 6:30 PM. We are Delhiites, and we love our winters, so sitting out is our obvious choice. Yup, for a few “its chilly” or “its freezing” but we love this weather.
The one thing that immediately caught my attention was the all new 2ft high “Beer Barrels” or “kegs” as they look like. This was interesting. It took me a minute to realise that they are serving the tower in those fancy little kegs. What a great idea!!

The barrel has been designed very well. The finish is real and the Irish house logo emblem is placed well. This houses 1.5ltrs of tap beer, and you can choose from the 3-4 beers that are always available.
Our choice last night was Witlinger.
The keg comes with its little stand, so that when you open the tap, you don’t spill the beer while adjusting the mug. However after a couple of happy mugs, we always spill some no matter what, but still, good design efficiency.
The reason why this keg makes an evening special is the pomp and show. In Delhi what we refer to as “Shosha” . The keg looks cool
perched on your table and since I was so enamoured by it, they give the keg a high chair where it sat grandly.
The Irish house is pretty generous with its liquor and food, so while we lapped up our beer, one of us was also trying run and coke and since the happy hours extend till bout 8 he was pretty powered up as well.

The food reminded me of Mumbai, essentially where the first Irish House was setup , so there was a notch extra spice in everything. But since I am not a foodie, it didn’t bother or excite me at any level whatsoever.
Th beer was hoegarden draft and is always the right taste here. I also got chatting with a bartender by the name of Sunil, who is working his way up with some really great ideas for cocktails. His palette for whiskey and vodka is going great guns, and since he was an innovative thinker, he promised to try some with beer. "A cocktail with beer would be fun and a challenge" was what we left the conversation on.
But rounding up , yes this is a fun place for friends and specially friends who love beer !!
